Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear

by The Curator on April 28, 2010

Who doesn’t remember Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear?   This super-soft (and stain-resistant!) Ursus Made-upicus was an omnipresent playtime  figure of American kids in the early 80’s. I can still recall the terse glances exchanged between Lotso and Teddy Ruxpin as they bitterly vied for my affection from opposite sides of the bedroom. From what I remember, Lotso won out in the end. Ruxpin’s batteries ultimately ended up in one of my RC Cars, and he’s been catatonic ever since.

Wait a second…

Dammit, Pixar! There you go again – implanting false childhood memories to virally promote the upcoming release of your latest franchise installment. Turns out that Lotso will be popping up in Toy Story 3 on June 18th. I feel like Quaid (or was it Hauser?) from Total Recall.

The Youtuber who quietly planted this retrofictionalized video added a couple of real vintage commercials along with the fake one. Clever, MrCrazycommercials. Clever.

Very clever indeed. It kind of has elements of Teddy Ruxpin meets My Buddy meets the Good Guy doll from the Child’s Play flicks, especially with that last line, “he’ll be your friend FOREVER.”
