Tannhäuser Gate

by The Curator on April 17, 2010

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I’ve watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears…in rain.

Time… to die.

Neither Blade Runner nor the Philip K. Dick novel on which it was loosely based, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, ever explore what or where this Tannhäuser Gate is.  Also, could what I transcribed as c-beams actually be sea-beams? And if so, what the frak are those!?

The 1998 film, Soldier, includes a scene featuring a computer readout of the protagonist’s many space battle exploits . Check out the third listing from the top. Although this film is quite the stinker, I do love the minute verisimilitude that this easter egg homage creates.
